A story of being born in Selby – parents working in industry in the area to provide for the family – and a connection to the town running so deep that even when she tries to leave she’s pulled back.

Sue’s Selby Story

Roots run deep. Forged into the flat landscape by my past. Farm workers, domestic servants, greengrocers, ship builders, soldiers and factory workers. 

I pull and tug at these roots and sometimes they break. I leave but not for long. I am pulled back by the tidal River Ouse. Muddy and strong. Roots run deep. I am anchored by my past and a sense of home.
