A physical journey starting in Hull, moving around the country and finding a physical and emotional home in Selby.
Chris’s Selby Story
Born and brought up in Hull at a time when neurodiversity was not as recognised as it is now. Always said I would never leave Hull. Struggled through high school and left with one GCSE.
Joined the RAF as a chef in 1990 and was based at RAF Waddington (Lincoln).
In 1997 was made redundant, was newly married with our second child on the way. Moved back to Hull again.
2010 Weight loss surgery.
2013 moved to Exeter to follow Tracy’s work.
Studied at Birmingham City Uni – started to get a grip on my mental health.
2015 youngest son diagnosed ASD answered lots of questions for me too. I am autistic.
2016 graduated with a Foundation Degree. First in my family to go and complete university.
Now I’m home, Selby is home. I am mentally and physically settled. I work for, and with, amazing people. I feel accepted, loved and valued.
I am home.
