Sadie’s Selby Connection

Moving to Selby was a ‘new adventure’, chosen by throwing a dart at the map, taking her closer to where her heart was (her children having moved to Yorkshire to study). A story of regeneration in more natural surroundings.

Sadie’s Selby Story

I told myself…..it was time for another adventure.

My past was hanging over me, holding me back in a dark tunnel I couldn’t escape.

I needed to be where the pieces of my heart had gone, to find the light. To become whole again. To escape the suffocation I was feeling, to be able to rise up from the ashes and breathe.

Breathe in the fresh air, be in the wider spaces of nature. To feel I have possibilities to write a new story which wasn’t defined by the dark clouds which hung over me.

To be able to smell the sea air, walk in amongst the trees, to paint, draw, let the creativity in me flow…..run free like the blood in my veins. To finally be free.

The dart flew and landed on the map, I looked at the spot, the name Selby. It sounded right…driving into the town for the first time and seeing the Abbey rise up majestically, I was filled with a feeling of peacefulness, a seed of hope I could, would, maybe, belong here…
