Jinette’s Selby Connection
The joy of relocating to Selby with her husband.
Jinette’s Selby Story
It’s July 20th 1996. Monday morning blues, but not today. Today we are moving to the countryside from the city.
The removal van has set off, it’s really on its way, oh we are all so excited, like watching Leeds United. Let’s all get in the car, cause it really is quite far. Let’s pick up some food along the way, oh my what a perfect day.
We trundle along to our new life, husband and a wife, with our 2 girls and our little dog. Today is so bright and with no fog. As the city is in our rear-view mirror, I let out a huge sigh, why did we stay in that city for so long, oh why!
The girls are singing in the car and then continue to ask, “how long, how far?” with our little dog trying to scratch out her pony tail (she’s a girl, not male) our Shih Tzu looks out over my shoulder in wonder, don’t worry little one, it’s not going to thunder.
The long stretch of that old Roman road is right ahead. That is the first sign of home. Oh wow, tonight I’ll be in my new bed and free to roam.
The fields are so green and lush, so lovely to be seen, no noise, no traffic, I think maybe one day, I might write my biographic.
The peace, the calm, the serenity of this new place, it’s like a dream, something we had never seen.
Our hearts are warm and no sign of any storm. Home is where we are. Our lovely little village is like a fairy tale. We get a wave from the man with the mail. The old man on his bicycle tips his cap, before he goes in for his nap.
The new neighbours bring us a cup of tea and so I introduce the family and then me.
Home is where we are, home is where we will stay forever and a day.
It started as our dreams and aspirations and we wondered if we could ever make the migration.
Would our close-knit family have tried to have stopped us moving away. Oh no they all followed us, but that tale is for another day.
Home is where we are and home is where we will stay forever and a day.
