As part of our Ribble of Dreams installation for Encounter Festival 2024 in Preston, imitating the dog are offering a series of free workshops for ages ranging from 5-25.
ITD make stories, and we are always looking at new ways to tell a tale. Sometimes these stories unfold on stages and sometimes they are projected in the dark onto the walls of tall buildings. This time the story will unfold across a series of viewing boxes, seen through a smartphone sized slot in a shop window. The installations will be visible across a trail of five shops in Preston City Centre during Encounter Festival, 21st & 22nd Sept 2024.
Ribble of Dreams takes as its starting point a river journey. A journey of escape, of exploration and of discovery. Drawing on the novel Huckleberry Finn as an inspiration, but also on local histories as well as pure fantasy, two kids find themselves adrift on a raft. They’re on a river, but it’s flowing away from the sea. It drifts through landscapes both real and fantastical, strange and familiar.
To inform the concept and create the content of the piece, ITD are delivering a series of free creative workshops for young people, children and families:

Multimedia Storytelling with ITD co-artistic directors Pete Brooks and Andrew Quick. This workshop will explore some of the simple theatre and creative technology techniques we use when telling stories, and that we will be using to make ‘Ribble of Dreams’ – acting, video, animation, green screen, & projection.
The focus of the workshop will be ‘river journeys’. You don’t need to have any prior experience of any of the artforms, the workshop is aimed at anyone who enjoys performing or making theatre.
There will also be an opportunity later in the week (w/b 16th Sept) for some young people from these workshops to come and take part in some filming for the video content of the Ribble of Dreams installations themselves. Further info given on the day.
