Looking to learn more about digital installations and video mapping? Wanting to get involved with some of the country’s brilliant light festivals? imitating the dog and a couple of our creative partners have some exciting opportunities happening this autumn, with application deadlines just around the corner. Check them out below.
imitating the dog: DigiLab
DigiLab is a free workshop week for anyone who wants to develop skills in projection mapping, led by imitating the dog and held at Lightworks, the home of Blackpool Illuminations.
Taking place Monday 20 – Friday 24 November, from 10am- 5pm, participants will learn about our approach to site-specific projection-mapped installations, from storyboarding through to basic animation and mapping techniques.

imitating the dog: Choir Call Out
Love music? Love Light Up Lancaster? Well this might be right up your street! We’re on the lookout for participants to join our choir for our new outdoor video projection piece for Light Up Lancaster 2023. Dear Einstein is a large-scale animated installation, mapped out onto a prominent building in the city centre, accompanied by an original soundtrack by composer, James Hamilton. We’re looking for Lancashire residents to perform live alongside this piece!

Light Up Lancaster: Special Workshop Activity
A rare chance to learn about Chinese traditional ink painting with artist, Quan Zi – a PhD student from the Lancaster Institute for Contemporary Arts, Lancaster University. This workshop is open to all members of the community (aged 18 and over) and is a Beginner Level.

Light Up the North: Marketing & Communications Specialist
Light Up The North is a network of light festivals which have come together to share their collective expertise and to learn together. They work together to support artists, to commission new artworks, to carry out research and as a strategic consortium which supports the development of the light art sector. They’re looking to appoint a freelance Marketing & Communications specialist to raise the profile of the network, extending its reach and showcasing their work, both as a network and through the network members’ festivals.

Light Up the North: SPARK Artist Programme 2023
SPARK is an opportunity for early career artists wanting to develop their practice in light-based and digital work for light festivals. Across 2 weekends in November and December 2023, the project will offer up to six artists the opportunity to be supported through a bespoke programme of workshops, networking events and talks scheduled to compliment two Light Up the North partner festivals – Light Up Lancaster (November 2-4) and Lightwaves Salford (December 7-10).
