Audio & Visual Support
Is Audio Description (AD) available?
Yes. Audio Description is available for installations via QR codes:
- The Abbey Exterior: A QR code will be projected on the west face of Selby Abbey every 12 minutes as part of the show.
- The Indoor Trail: Each installation inside the Abbey will have a lit-up QR code next to it. The list of installations can be found here.
- Support: Volunteers will be stationed throughout the trail to help you access these files
Are there subtitles or Closed Captions?
Yes. We provide closed captions for key works:
- The main projection on the west face of Selby Abbey includes closed caption subtitles
- The indoor installation titled “St Germain” also features closed caption subtitles
How can I read about the artworks?
Digital artwork information is available via QR codes located at each installation and on the Abbey exterior.
Note: If you require a large print version of the artwork information, please ask a member of staff onsite who will be happy to provide one.
What should I bring to access digital content?
To use our Audio Description and digital interpretation, please bring:
- Your own earphones or headphones
- A smartphone with a camera (to scan QR codes)
Physical Access & Getting Around
Does the event have step-free access?
Yes. Step-free access to Selby Abbey is available via the South Door. This entrance is clearly signposted from the marketplace.

There is also step-free access inside the Abbey to all of the trail installations. If you would like a map of the interior step free access route, please ask a member of staff. Staff members are stationed nearby if you require assistance.
Is there seating available?
Yes. We provide seating in two main areas:
- On the Marketplace (for the exterior projection)
- Inside Selby Abbey along the light trail
Are assistance dogs welcome?
Absolutely. Assistance dogs are welcome both in the marketplace and inside the Abbey.
Is there an accessible toilet?
Yes, there is a fully accessible toilet located inside Selby Abbey.
Families & Infants
Can I bring a pram?
Yes! Prams are welcome on the light trail. Alternatively, if you would prefer not to push it through the trail, we have a designated Pram Park area where they can be stored. Please speak to a member of staff.
What facilities are available for babies?
- Changing: Baby changing facilities are located inside the Abbey
- Feeding: We welcome baby feeding throughout the event. If you would prefer a private space for feeding, please speak to a member of staff and they will find a quiet area for you.
Sensory Information
Will there be flashing lights or loud noises?
We have designed this event to be sensory-friendly. There will be no flashing lights, strobe effects, or sudden loud sounds during the 2026 event.
