Free All Blood Runs Red Learning Resources

Ten practitioners spent last week learning about projection mapping with imitating the dog at Lightworks, home of Blackpool’s Illuminations, supported by Lightpool Festival. The participants worked in three groups to create a short video animation piece each, projection mapped onto a scale model building of three famous Blackpool landmarks.
The practitioners came from a wide range of creative backgrounds, from film-makers and musicians to fine artists and theatre-makers, lighting and sound technicians to dancers and illustrators. As you might expect from such a varied set of skills and artistic influences, the pieces created were highly heterogeneous, beautifully unique and occasionally hilarious! They included riffs on Blackpool’s notorious stag and hen dos, a heart-rending journey into outer space, and a frankly terrifying encounter with a satanic Santa.
In addition to learning from ITD’s video projection experts and collaborating with each other, the practitioners also had the opportunity to meet and ask questions of leading light festival producers in the region, as well as experiencing tours of the Lightworks fabrication space and Illuminations projection trailer.
All in all it was a lovely week, full of fun, collaboration and, if such a thing is possible, too many pastries.
