The Mist in the Mirror previews in less than a week’s time at Oldham Coliseum and the re-staging of The Zero Hour opens in Batumi, Georgia in less than two week’s time so we’ve hit the ground, what we’ve seen of it anyway, of 2015 running!
Which is, of course, a great way to start any year.
We first worked with Oldham Coliseum on 2012’s The Hound of the Baskervilles and we all had such a thoroughly lovely time we thought we’d do it all again, but this time scarier. So here we are, hopefully touring to a theatre near you between next week and May (please see dates below), with an adaptation by Ian Kershaw of Susan Hill’s The Mist in the Mirror. And we think it’s going to be really rather good. See you for a stiff drink after in the bar!
Our second project is with the British Council in Georgia as part of their Performing Arts Support Programme in Ajara. imitating the dog were part of the British Council Showcase at the Edinburgh Festival in 2013 with The Zero Hour which is when we first met director Giorgi Tavadze and where this rather intriguing conversation began. And eighteen months later, sometimes these things take time, we’re 11 days and counting away from the first preview at the Batumi State Musical Center. Several members of the company have been over in various capacities and for this final stage of the collaboration I’m here with two of our Artistic Directors and, very thankfully, intrepid Isadora and all things technical whiz Will Simpson. Messrs.Wainwright and Crofts are up to their ears in Mist of course. It’s incredibly interesting working on a re-staging of one of our shows for the first time, to see how Giorgi and his company are interpreting the piece, what is important to them, what resonates with them, their process in rehearsal, their work ethic (which is something to behold I can assure you).
So best to casts, companies, all over the next few weeks and let’s see how things are looking as we get nearer to opening. Openings…
