Tosca

In October 2016 the ITD creative team was invited to stage Tosca for Teatro delle Muse in Ancona. It was the team’s first experience of classical opera, with and with a company of just over 100 performers the largest project we have worked on.

Production design suggested a mid twentieth century setting without imposing a literal relocation of the action and the directorial approach emphasised Tosca’s naivety in a time of political upheaval. The production was contemporary while remaining faithful to the libretto and Puccini’s detailed musical dramaturgy. Audience and critical response was enthusiastic.
