What is it?
DigiLab is a free workshop week (5 days) for anyone who wants to develop skills in projection mapping.
Participants will learn about imitating the dog’s approach to site-specific projection-mapped installations, from storyboarding through to basic animation and mapping techniques.
Together we’ll be making a short piece of work using software such as After Effects, Photoshop, Isadora and QLab, to be projected indoors onto a model building.
The group will work with imitating the dog artists to learn about storytelling through projection mapping, developing techniques and putting them into practice to create a piece of work together.
Who is it for?
Early career / developing artists and creative people who want to learn about projection mapping. You might be a visual artist who hasn’t done any projection mapping before, you might be into film or photography or another artform and keen to learn some new techniques, or you might be a lighting or theatre technician looking to expand your creative skills.
We actively encourage submissions from creatives currently under-represented in the light festival sector including people from Black, Asian and ethnically diverse backgrounds and those who identify as neurodiverse or disabled. Priority will be given to practitioners based in the Northwest. Please note that we are unable to cover travel and accommodation costs.
How to Apply
Complete the short application questionnaire HERE by 5pm on Friday 30th August. We would be grateful if you would also complete our Equality & Diversity Monitoring form HERE but this is not mandatory for your application.
All applicants will be notified by 5pm on Monday 9th September.

FAQ
Q: Do I need to come every day?
A: Yes, attendance is expected on all 5 days.
Q: How many places are there?
A: The maximum number of participants is 12.
Q: Why do I have to apply?
A: Places are free but limited and this is a rare opportunity, so we want to make sure that attendees get the most out of it. Applications will be assessed by a small team from ITD/Lightpool and places offered to those who we think will get the most out of the opportunity.
Q: Is the space accessible?
A: The space has step-free access. Please let us know if you have additional access needs that we might need to accommodate.
Q: Is accommodation provided?
A: No, the attendance at the workshops is free, thanks to support from Lightpool and Arts Council England but we can’t help towards travel or accommodation costs.
Q: Do I need to bring anything?
A: All equipment and software is provided, but it would be helpful if participants could bring their own laptop. If you do not have access to a laptop for the duration of the course please let us know in your application and we will aim to provide one for you if selected. This also applies if you think your laptop might be too old or not high enough spec to run video editing/animation software effectively. If in doubt, please ask!
Q: What about lunch?
A: Please bring a packed lunch. Light refreshments (tea, coffee, biscuits) will be provided.
