Stories from Homeward return to Selby

25th May 2026 by Lauren Randall

Nearly four months after the company lit up the inside and outside of Selby Abbey with Homeward for Now Then’s Selby Light 2026, we’re returning to both the town and the installation to revisit those stories in a brand new light.

Homeward originally featured a magical trail of installations throughout the Abbey, a collection of characters and stories brought to life in a series of imaginative and unexpected ways and all inspired by local residents who participated in several workshops.

Swapping wintery nighttime for summer sun, we’ll be returning with five festival favourites, this time presenting them in a new outdoor setting. Housed in a blackout marquee, these unique characters will be accompanied by two new works from local artists, presented in viewing box installations.

And, if that wasn’t enough, we’ll also be reliving the magic of the original, spectacular Homeward video-mapping installation in a special film screened on a loop. Join us in the grounds of Selby Abbey on Saturday 13 June.

Keep up to date with details by following our social media channels and Now Then! on Facebook.

Homeward was originally commissioned by Now Then! (part of North Yorkshire Council), co-produced with Mediale and conceived, created and realised by imitating the dog for Selby Light 2026. It was made possible with funding for Arts Council England, North Yorkshire Council, UKSPF and The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
