We’ve returned to Castle Howard this Christmas for another theatrical festive extravaganza, this time on a journey down the yellow brick road to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
We’ve reunited with CLW Event Design to bring L. Frank Baum’s iconic novel to life, creating spectacular projections and providing immersive soundscapes with James Hamilton and scene-setting lighting with Andrew Crofts to accompany their large installation pieces, stunning set dressings and magical world building!
Follow the classic tale as it unfolds through Castle Howard’s grand halls, where stately rooms transform into Munchkinland, poppy fields, the Emerald City (including a custom built Shambles-esque street) and more.
Take a look at some of projection-work, including the Wizard himself, as well as the thematic lighting in the photos below, taken by Ed Waring.
You’ll also be able to take a peek behind the scenes on your television screens, with new Channel 4 series A Very British Christmas. The series follows CLW Event Design as they transform three stately homes for the festive season, with Castle Howard the first episode in the series. Catch it on Channel 4 on Tuesday 9 December, 8pm.
