A Blackpool Getaway: The Heist
3rd July 2025
With the announcement of our 2026 touring production War of the Worlds out there, we’ve had the time to start development on our retelling of H. G. Wells’s classic story.
It’s an exciting experience to dive into both our own pool of thoughts and the context and history of an iconic text and title. R&D allows for unwieldy first steps, and earlier this month we headed to Central St Martins, London for an early session.
Our Artistic Directors, Pete Brooks, Andrew Quick and Simon Wainwright, were joined by imitating the dog Associate Practitioners, Matthew Prendergast and Laura Atherton, as well as CSM student Cheuk Him Lam, for a week of running through some first script drafts, the making and breaking of design boards and concept, testing out technology, creatively experimenting with the possibilities of what this show can be. Confronting the Tripod lens head on.
Frequent ITD photographer Ed Waring also travelled down to take shots of the team in action – you can find the gallery in full below.
War of the Worlds is made in association with Cast, Doncaster and Lancaster Arts and goes out on tour in February 2026. Find out more information about the tour and tickets here.
