What is Trespass?

Trespass is a new outdoor video mapping and sound piece made by us, imitating the dog, in collaboration with composer and musician James Hamilton. There will be three main performances: one night at The Harris in Preston as part of Lancashire Encounter’s, Brief Encounter night on 23rd September and two nights at Lancaster Castle as part of Light Up Lancaster on 3rd and 4th November.

The piece will be a 10-15 minute projection piece which will use the architecture of the two buildings to tell a story of the reclaiming of the city by the natural elements. The video piece will be enhanced by a live soundtrack, written by James Hamilton and performed by four community groups as a live choir.

The artists

imitating the dog  tell stories. Stories that are wrapped in beautiful design, high-end video projection and intricate sound design. We make work for theatres, outdoor spaces and large scale architectural projection. We also run education projects and publish texts.

James Hamilton is a composer, trumpet player and member of the band Hope & Social. He has a long history of working in participatory project, most recently working with Hope & Social on their Tour of Infinite Possibility as part of the Tour de France Grand Depart.

How do you get involved?

We’re looking for four community groups to make a large choir to perform on the nights, to become the soundtrack to the video work. We’ll deliver 2-3 workshops with you before the show and then you’ll be asked to join us at both venues to perform the piece, several times each night.

You don’t need any musical ability or knowledge. You just need an open mind and enthusiasm. And as it will be winter and you’ll be singing outdoors you’ll beed some warm clothes and some gloves!

I want to take part! What now?

Well first of all you’ll need the dates. We’ll probably come and deliver 2 or 3 workshops with your group between the 25th August and the 25th September. More than likely we’ll try and deliver them at your usual meeting place and, often, at your usual meeting time. The performance dates are:

  • PRESTON: 23rd September 2017
  • LANCASTER: 3rd & 4th November 2017

We’d like to have all groups at both performances and you’ll be needed all day to do a final rehearsal.

Examples of our past work:

Arrivals and Departures: A large scale projection mapping piece situated on The Deep, made as part of Made in Hull, the opening ceremony of Hull City of Culture 2017.

Seabreeze: Made in collaboration with Raisin and Willow the piece brought to life Morecambe’s Winter Gardens Theatre with video, sound and live performance.

Company Showreel: More examples of the company’s work for theatres and outdoor performance.
