THE TRAIN – first UK dates 2016

Writing this in the hiatus between the first of the UK dates for The Train, having opened the show at Lancaster Arts at Lancaster University. The Nuffield Theatre is the closest we come to having a spiritual home I reckon and there’s always a sense that one can almost smell the blood, sweat, tears and various other liquids that have gathered, accumulated and been soaked up over the years of ITD making and performing work in that space. Yeeeeuw. I’m putting myself off my own lunch now so moving on…

We were very happy indeed to have sold out all 26 performances of The Train there back in January and to have received some really thoughtful, thought provoking audience feedback as well as some great reviews, including 4 STARS from The Stage and a lovely review from Lyn Gardner in The Guardian.

Since touring A Farewell to Arms we’ve put a Comment Book in the bar of the venues we’ve visited and here’s an excerpt from one of my favourites from the run at Lancaster Arts:

‘Absolutely fantastic. Already arguing about interpretation. Technically perfect, so please pass on my genuine appreciation to the technical team – this was clearly not a straightforward task but was flawless in its presentation. Story tremendous…can’t be an easy task with the audience so close, but what an incredible performance from all involved. Finally, please keep pushing boundaries, keep pushing forward.’

(feel a need to mention here that one of our favourites from the A Farewell to Arms Comment Book was ‘Tosh. Total tosh’).

So now looking forward to performing at The Castle in Wellingborough for the first time! To kick off the week we’ll be doing a project with 10 or so young people there, as it’s half term, making a piece of performance from scratch over 4 days on the set of The Train, asking them to devise, write, record, film, create footage to project, put together a soundscape and no doubt a fair bit more – can’t WAIT. Going to be a good. Performances of The Train follow from Fri 19th – Sun 21st and tickets are still available for some shows. Hope to see you there!
