EDUCATION
Since its formation in 1998, the company has created a series of unique and successful workshops that are offered to schools, colleges and universities. Our education programme is designed to provide students with the tools and inspiration to use theatrical means to engage critically with the texts and technologies that mark out their daily lives. Each of these workshops is built around the working methodologies used by the company and adapted to provide an interactive, constructive and challenging environment for young people to engage with contemporary theatre practice. All workshops are led by people who have worked in educational contexts and are designed for both inexperienced and experienced participants. The sessions are designed to last 3-4 hours, but can be extended over a day if desired and they usually take place in the space provided by the booker. In special circumstances the company can arrange an appropriate space for the workshops to take place in (this will be negotiated between all parties concerned). Each of the workshops is designed for 15-20 participants.

ITD also have experience in designing longer programmes tailored to an institution's or group's individual needs and resources. As experienced educators, ITD recognise the importance of critical reflection. The shared analysis of creative decision-making and aesthetic composition forms a backbone to all our work with young people.

We are currently offering the following series of workshops to schools, colleges and youth groups (ages 16-24).

1. Techniques for Devising Performance

This workshop introduces participants to the specific performance making approaches adopted by the company. Starting with an exploration of what constitutes realism in the theatre, this workshop explores different approaches that extend and challenge the realist model. It specifically explores notions of allegory, metaphor and myth as devices that can create new forms of realism in the theatre and engages with the potential of presentational styles of performance to provide a platform for more authentic ways to theatricalise experience. This workshop is specifically aimed at those studying theatre at schools and colleges or for young theatre groups.

>> 3-4 hours, £300 (+VAT), 15-20 participants

2. Experimenting Narratives

This session focuses on time, memory and narrative in performance. It draws on screen (film, television and photography) techniques to encourage participants to explore the different ways that stories, the process of remembering and the concept of time can be used in the making of performance. Within the workshop participants work on their physical and choreographic skills and are introduced to making inventive use of space, while also developing their ability to manage the performance 'score' - its pacing and structure. The workshop will take an extraordinary event as its starting point, where the emphasis is on the reconstruction of time through the condensation and expansion of experience.

>> 3-4 hours, £300 (+VAT), 15-20 participants

3. Interactive Technologies (3 hour workshop)

In line with our own creative and performance techniques, this workshop will introduce basic devising skills and give the students the opportunity to act in front of projected film images. The students will be asked to react to changing environments created with a back projection and sound environment.

imitating the dog make innovative use of digital media, design and physical performance to create off-kilter worlds - exploring themes such as identity, death, love and sexuality. This workshop gives students a first step into the implementation of our methods.

4. Interactive Technologies (whole day)

This will develop the themes of the shorter workshop above and students will also get the opportunity to perform in front of blue screen, experimenting with changing filmic backrounds and live image manipulation. The company will provide all the equipment needed to film, edit and project bluescreen video and will guide the students through the creation and use of this new media.

Our work is particularly concerned with using filmic landscapes within a theatrical setting and using the tools of video and projection to create fantastical worlds. This day-long workshop will provide the students with the tools and inspiration to engage with texts and technologies in a similar way.

>> Whole Day, £500 (+VAT), 15-20 participants
